Hazzberry Farms Product Launch

Twenty-eight Maritime Haskap berry farmers have created a business partnership, using their talents and their berries to create tasty and nutritious products for the Maritime market and beyond.  The focus and fruit of their labours is HazzBerry Farms, a new company formed at the end of 2018.  HazzBerry Farms is 100% owned and operated by Haskap growers from Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, who are determined to control their own destiny.  As one grower put it, “As owners of the company, we are incentivized to produce the highest quality berries possible so that our products are also high quality.”

HazzBerry Farms will be launching their new product line in Mahone Bay on Saturday, June 15th at The Teazer, Nova Scotia’s oldest gift store. The Teazer owner Sue Bourinot says “I love the entrepreneurial spirit of these growers who have brought such a high-quality product to market in our little province.  Haskap berries are such a tasty fruit with so many health benefits, everyone should have them at home in some form.”   In conjunction with the product launch, many of Mahone Bay’s restaurants will be creating tantalizing recipes using one or more of the Hazzberry Farms products that will be available on the 15th.  A list of participating restaurants will be posted on the Hazzberry Farms website, www.haskapsuperfruit.ca.

HazzBerry Farms products will be available at select farmers' markets and specialty retail shops across the Maritimes this summer.  Currently available products consist of preserves, jellies, juices and a dessert sauce – all made with Haskap berries and other local berries. More products including dried berries, powders and teas are in the pipeline for release later this year. 

Joe Piotti heads up HazzBerry Farms and he states, "It’s amazing to be collaborating with local restaurants and shops to bring our products to fruition! We are grateful for the support that we’re receiving from Sue and the Town of Mahone Bay!”.

 Mahone Bay resident, Haskap farmer and one of the owners of HazzBerry Farms Brian O’Kane says "We are so pleased to see the fruits of our labour available in town at Sue’s store! Sue, her husband Scott and store manager Martha have been so incredibly supportive.  We can’t wait for the 15th to taste what our local restaurants have created with our HazzBerry Farms products!"
